Dr. John Torres went on TODAY to talk ways to prioritize your health for a better 2023, and he shared five simple, free tips for improvement. You may not think these things matter much, but give them a try and you’ll see the results in no time!

Better sleep

It’s key to get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night, depending on the person. Stick to your nighttime routine and put the electronics away. If you toss and turn in bed for more than 15 minutes, get up and walk around a bit without turning the lights on.

Minimize tech

Minimize your screen time, especially right before bed. This will help reduce depression and encourage real-life social interactions. It will also improve your sleep!

Just a half hour a day of reading does a body wonders! So turn off the TV and let your imagination run wild with a good book. Not only does this help strengthen your brain, it will reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

Eat plant-based foods

Eat more of a plant-based diet. Be sure to include fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. One trick is to fill your plate with those first to leave less room for the other less-healthy options. Your cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart will thank you!

Drink more water

Chances are, you probably need more water than you think… Most of us are actually slightly dehydrated, and water boosts the efficiency of our entire bodies. So carry around a reusable water bottle and drink it up! There’s no magic amount to aim for, but you’ll know when you’ve had enough.

Follow these for a happier and healthier 2023, and make that New Year’s resolution come true! 🙂
